August 2025 Newsletter

Dear Coaches,

As we move into the fall season, I want to highlight the vital role you play in Engagement and Governance for our New Mexico coaching community.

Engagement

Your active participation is crucial to building a thriving coaching community here in New Mexico. By engaging, sharing our knowledge, and supporting one another, we can elevate the coaching profession and create a vibrant network that benefits everyone.

Looking ahead, we have a full lineup of events in September—mark your calendars, register, and come have some fun with us. Be inspired, learn, and earn CCEUs.

You’ll find more details and registration links in the Events section of this newsletter, but here are a few highlights.

  • Keys to Transition from Corporate To Coach on September 9. This one is FREE for all New Mexico members & associates as part of our monthly business development series. Elissa Kelly is a phenomenal coach and presenter who helps coaches around the country make the leap from corporate to entrepreneur.
  • Coaches Case Study on September 10 featuring our amazing and talented co-facilitators, Linley Daly and Jillian Gonzales. Join us for a small group case study where we’ll experience a deep inquiry and reflection about our processes, practices and mindsets as coaches. Space is limited so grab your (virtual) seat while you can!
  • Monthly Workshop - A Deep Dive into Values on September 12 explores the role of values in the Coach and Client relationship, and how to apply them to all relationships. This is a co-hosted event so note the two step registration process.
  • Santa Fe Coaches Connect on September 17 at the beautiful home of Jodi Hummer. This is a free potluck style gathering and an opportunity to connect informally - we welcome all coaches, and tag a friend or colleague to join you. Come meet, socialize and connect!
  • 23 Steps to Fill Your Programs with One Signature Talk on September 24 - This is another great opportunity to sharpen our skills as business owners, entrepreneurs, and overcome our fear of the dreaded sales pitch.

Leadership and Governance

Last week we sent out a call for nominations for our 2026 Board, and you may have noticed that a few critical roles are open for nominations - President, President-Elect, Treasurer - these are essential officer roles we still need to fill. We’re also on the look-out for new (and returning) volunteers to support Programming, Membership and Marketing.

Although board and committee service requires commitment and time - it’s also very rewarding.  For me personally, getting involved in my local ICF chapters - first in Arizona and now in New Mexico - has been a tremendous opportunity to create new friendships, expand my professional network, and develop my leadership skills.

ICF Global requires that board members be active ICF global members - which means there are only about 110 of us in the entire state who are qualified to serve on the board. I ask each of you to consider whether having an active, local chapter here in New Mexico is important - and if it is - please consider applying for a board role.

You do not need to be a Global member to volunteer for one of our Committees - so there are a lot more of you out there we’d like to engage. If you have a few hours each month you’re willing to contribute, reach out to me at president@icfnewmexico.org so we can discuss potential roles.

In closing, I want to invite each of you to consider a role you can play to contribute to our collective success - whether through board service, volunteering for a committee, or simply committing to attend an upcoming event. Your participation matters and helps to strengthen our coaching community.

With gratitude,

Deborah Thompson, PCC

Coach and Client: A Deep Dive Into Why Values Matter and How to Apply Them to All Relationships
Date:
September 12, 2025
Time:
9:45 AM - 11:00 AM

Relationships are the foundation of every interaction we have in our professional and personal life. Knowing one’s values defines who we choose as friends, who we decide to work with and who we marry or choose as a life partner. Come learn a deeper way to look at values and play in the sandbox of exploring your values. Learn how to bring into focus what truly matters for your clients and how to utilize these core values as a rudder for their life’s decisions.

Benefits to the Audience:

  • The coach will explore why knowing one's values is instrumental to all successful relationships.
  • The coach will be able to identify one’s values with more depth and with greater specificity.
  • The coach will identify one’s values as relationship values or personal values.

Please note that this event has a 2-step registration process. Follow the instructions in the follow-up email.

Business Development Monthly Cohort Meeting

Date: September 9, 2025
Time:
4:00pm - 5:00pm MT

Topic: 7 Keys to Transition from Corporate to Coach

We invite all interested individuals to join our cohort, which will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Considering and making the leap from Corporate to Entrepreneur can be daunting. Reevaluating success and creating an entrepreneurial exit from Corporate to Coaching can be done successfully - if you have the right framework to turn risk into opportunity.

Entrepreneurship as a Coach is very different from Corporate Life, and figuring out how to translate your decades of corporate experience can be time consuming. What you want is a reliable shortcut that has already been tested by someone you trust.

In this session, Elissa Kelly will share critical areas for successfully pivoting to entrepreneurship and building a thriving coaching business, including:
-The Risk Framework: how to turn risk into opportunity
-Common overlooked keys to success in three areas: Strategy, Operations and Business Development

Non-members are encouraged to sign up for Associates-level membership if they wish to participate.

Coaches Case Study
Date:
September 10, 2025
Time:
4:00pm - 6:00pm MDT

Our Case Study program is an experiential in-depth group exploration of the underlying themes and dynamics of a coaching client case presented by one of the participants.
We will:

  • Get in touch with processes related to the given client or topic.
  • Identify and work with the dynamics in the relational field between coach and client.
  • Gain clarity about the patterns that support as well as hinder the coaching work.

In our journey through the process, the community will:

  • Share experiences and knowledge of coaching to support the person bringing the case and expand the learning of the group.
  • Deepen inquiry skills.
  • Learn by the reflections observed.
  • Strengthen networks and enrich practices by sharing stories, and valuing and appreciating each other’s work.

Registration is capped at 10 people.

All registrants are encouraged to reflect on a coaching case they would like to bring forward for the group. This is generally a situation that you would like to better understand - perhaps your choices, options, feelings, approach, impacts, etc. It may be something from the past that feels unfinished, something you are anticipating in the future, or something happening right now in the present. As a case presenter, you will have the chance to hear questions from peers about your case and to get input that may provide new insights on working with clients. The focus is NOT on solving the client's problem nor on assessment of your skills or ability as a coach. The focus is on your experience as a coach and facilitating new insights and awareness.

3 Steps to Fill Your Programs with One Signature Talk
Date:
September 24, 2025
Time:
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
CCEUs: 0.75 Core Competency & 0.75 Resource Development

Many coaches speak, but few know how to inspire their audience to take action. They end up over educating and not activating their audience. Does that sound familiar?
This happens because they're missing a proven process for turning each talk into clients. And lucky for you, that's what you'll learn when you join us. The great news is you're just ONE talk away from consistently full programs. The even better news is that when you join us, you'll discover exactly how to apply this to your business.
Session attendees will walk away with:
- The 3 Simple Steps You Must Master to Fill Your Programs (skip one step at your own risk!)
- The Secret to Getting in Front of Your Ideal Clients (this works even if you don't have a big list)
- How to Activate Your Audience (so they take action without a big "pitch" at the end)
- Why ONE Talk is ALL You Need (and why getting your topic right is VITAL!)
